Akron Police are asking for the public’s  help finding a group of suspects who stole a safe full of guns from a home in Highland Square and may have been involved in a carjacking moments later.

Officers say that Wednesday around 11:45 am members of the U.S. Marshals  Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force happened to spot 4 men struggling to load something large and heavy into the back seat of a vehicle. When Marshals approached the men they fled.

The object they were trying to load? A safe full of guns that had been stolen from a home on Payne Ave. About 15 minutes later police received a report of a carjacking on Storer Ave where a 21-year old man told police that 3 men held him at gunpoint with AR-15 style rifles and stole his 2013 Dodge Charger.

The car was later recovered and the circumstances surrounding the events are currently under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip.
