A 17-year-old boy was arrested yesterday morning by the Akron Police and U.S. Marshals after he allegedly stole a tip jar from an Akron gas station and shot the employee who chased after him.

News 5 reports that the teen was arrested yesterday in the 800 block of Oberlin Street and is charged with multiple counts including aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence.

Authorities say that on January 25th the teen stole a tip jar from the Gas & Save on West Exchange Street and then shot the store clerk who chased after him along Delia Street, with Akron Police Captain Michael Miller noting that the store clerk still has a long road to recovery.

Speaking on the arrest, Akron Police Chief Brain Harding thanked the Akron police, detectives, and the U.S. Marshals for their work in tracking down the suspect saying, ““We have had folks working around the clock to find this suspect to ensure he will face the consequences of these senseless actions. I also want to thank our community as it was a tip that helped lead us to the suspect. The more that our residents get involved and break that code of silence, the safer our community can be.”
