Sandy’s love of music is what attracted her to radio in 1980. Her ambition has taken her on a long and winding road filled with radio stations starting in Port Clinton, OH. Then she was off to Odessa/Midland, TX and back to her hometown of Cleveland, OH where she has graced the airwaves at Majic 105.7, WGAR, 107.3 The Wave and Jammin’ Oldies 92.3. She had a successful run on the air at Sunny 95 (WSNY) in Columbus in the aughts. Now, Sandy Bennett is home once again and happily on the air at WQMX and WAKR.
Sandy won a Middy Award for an ad campaign she wrote, voiced and produced in Columbus. Early in her career, she won Addy awards for her writing and production skills. She used those same skills as a volunteer at the Pet Adoption League and ended up being recognized with a Commendation from Ector County in Texas for Outstanding Community Service.
Giving back to the community is important to Sandy and she has stepped up to help when she can. Doing volunteer work behind the scenes at the Tri-C Jazz Fest as an assistant to the Media Director. Donating her time as a celebrity book reader at Cleveland Reads. Serving her homemade from scratch chocolate cookies while meeting, greeting and eating with fellow pet lovers at the Capital Area Humane Society’s Celebrity Chef Event. Sharing her love of musical theater with budding young thespians as a volunteer at Kids on Broadway in Columbus. And, sorting books to be shared with needy children at the Cleveland Kids Book Bank.
Some of Sandy’s favorite things to do besides radio are gardening, cooking healthy food, reading, sewing, yoga, walking in the Metroparks, playing with her doggy friend - Russell (yes! He’s a Jack Russell Terrier!), and restoring her 1960’s family home back to its original glory as time and money permit.
