A 68-year-old Parma Heights woman has died after falling and being struck by an ambulance. 

Parma Heights Police say it happened Saturday night, after concerned neighbors called police to check on the woman. News 5 reports that police arrived and forced entry into the apartment and found the woman conscious and breathing. Police called the fire department to have the woman checked out but she refused treatment. 

Witnesses say that the woman then left her apartment and went outside the building, approaching the passenger side of the ambulance. But the woman fell as the ambulance was pulling away and she was crushed by the vehicle. The woman later died from injuries at the scene. 

Paramedics say they were unaware the woman was outside the vehicle. The incident is currently under investigation
