It’s the end of an era in Highland Square, as Annabell’s Bar & Lounge has officially announced their closure.

As reported by the Beacon Journal, the landmark music venue has been a staple in Akron since the 1970’s. The bar, known as a safe space for musicians and a platform for local artists, says the economic impact of the pandemic is to blame for their closure.

In a post to their Facebook page Annabell’s said that despite months of negotiations they were unable to pay their increased rent costs. Calling the decision to close a heartbreaking one, the post went on to thank the community for the memories and support saying, “We have certainly enjoyed the journey with you all.”
