Akron's Ward 8 Councilman, Shammus Malik will be Akron's 63rd Mayor, after capturing 43 percent of the vote in yesterday's primary election, beating 6 challengers—all of them, Democrats.

Because no Republicans or Independents were on the ballot; Malik will run unopposed in the November General election.

Current Mayor, Dan Horrigan congratulated Malik on becoming the city's 63rd Mayor, and says his administration "is committed to "setting our next Mayor up for success by offering a smooth transition as we get closer to 2024."
