We Demand Action! Protests In Columbus, and Coming Up in DC Featured

Written by

Some Ohioans are fed up with what they see as government inaction, and they're taking it to the streets.

In Columbus Wednesday, some East Palestine residents gathered at the Statehouse, to protest what they believe is not enough government action on their behalf to help them deal with serious health issues  from the train derailment and toxic chemical release in February.

News5 reports that even though Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's did not release an official statement; his office responded by saying the protests are based on "wrong information", and officials are working in the "best interest" of people affected by the derailment.

In Akron, several local activist groups are selling tickets for a bus trip to Washington DC, where they plan a protest to demand a US Justice Department investigation into the Akron police shooting of Jayland Walker.

Akron Beacon Journal reports that the protest organized by groups including Freedom BLOC, DeJournett Consulting, and the Akron Chapters of both the NAACP, and the Urban League, will take place on the one year anniversary of Walker's death, with buses leaving from the First Congregational Church parking lot at 355 S. Union St. at noon June 26.

Tickets are on sale now for $50. Click here to purchase.
