Concrete Falls from East Ave. Bridge, Hits Car Featured

Written by
Just 11 days after a tractor trailer carrying a large bulldozer slammed into the East Avenue closing I-76 for more than 12 hours, a piece of debris fell from the bridge, slamming into a man's windshield.

Len Brown tells Channel 19 News out of Cleveland that on Friday he was driving along 76 when the chunk of concrete smashed his windshield. He thought it was an explosion that went off in his car.

ODOT tells the WAKR Newsroom that a safety inspector told them the bridge was safe just a couple of days after the tractor trailer accident December 3rd, but that the concrete likely fell because of that accident.

Another inspection has been conducted since Friday's incident, and ODOT says the bridge is safe for travel, both on and under. That said, ODOT says that repairs are scheduled for the bridge within the next few months.

Brown, meanwhile, says he's filing a claim with the state to help pay for the damage to his car.
