Mission Impossible: Fallout
For some reason we just don't get tired of this Tom Cruise series based on the old TV show of the same name. And this is pretty good.
Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team at the IMF are this time trying to save the world from nuclear attack. This has a great cast, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Henry Cavill, Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett, Rebecca Ferguson, and Michelle Monaghan. There is plenty of action to go around, and there are some amazing chase scenes that are memorable. This is filmed wonderfully, and set in a beautiful European backdrop for the most part.
This is fun, exciting and has great pace. It may be a bit too long, but what action movie isn't? For some reason this franchise is aging well. Why? Great cast, and an original premise spawned decades ago, that is holding up against the test of time.
Well Done.
Equalizer 2
I would ask you this. Pay no real attentoin to the stuffy national critics on this one, they are begin unkind and having ridiculous expectations here. If you go, you will like his flick. Denzel is back as the complicated Robert McCall.
This is a summer action flick, with a brain. McCall s still called by his troubled past to help those who can't help themselves, and this does lose a bit of focus at times and winds off course a bit. So what? Refreshing that we have a movie that is adult, and McCall is taking on real people, that live in our world today. And being even more fair, he is fighting to help the ONE person and not save the universe from some creature that can fly and has rays flying out of his eyes.
This has been update nicely, and looks great. Antione Fuqua is a great director and his mark is all over this. Denzel is terrific, and so is the supporting cast. Yes, this is plenty violent, but his business is messy. This is handled very well, and is not gratuitous. Not all movies are made to win Oscars, and this won't, but you'll like it. An we need movies that are more human based for grown ups to see.
Equalizer 2 - Nothing wrong here. Hoping for more.
Skyscraper
The Rock just keeps making movies that people want to see. This is one of them. This is nothing except summer thrills and fun.
I can't even say this is a good movie. But what I can say this is an entertaining movie, especially in the summertime. The Rock is trying to save hisfamily from the worlds tallest building that is on fire, and under attack by terrible people. Can we love this guy any more?
This is filled with sweaty palmed moments and we are almost falling 3,000 feet many times. This movies along nicely and is compelling in it's action, as opposed to its underlying plot, which is adequate at best. But you won't care. This is summer fun action with a smile. And a good, fun action flick is right on time right now
Sacario 2
The original was a very good movie, and so is this one. This is one of those movies that has no good guys whatsoever. This deals with the drug cartels, how are awful. The secret part of the US Government , and they are awful. Corrupt police north and south of the US/Mexican border.
This is the second in what is turning out to be a series, as this is set up for more. This time the US kidnaps a cartel leaders daughter in the effort to start a civil war between the cartels in Mexico. The effort is being made because in our movie, he president has deemed the cartels as terrorists. And we must engage theme south of the border.
Needless to say, this goes wrong. Violent, harsh, not easy movie watching. But very good, and puts you on a slow burn that keep you watching. A hard R rating, and well deserved. The first one was good, this is very good.
This week, we're visiting Akron's "Makerspace", where tinkerers, inventors, and entrepreneurs can use both new and old technology to create, explore, and innovate. We'll also learn about a new invention to make the electrical grid "smarter", how we may one day use the whole surface our homes to generate electricity, and technology that can enable you to actually see around corners.

Former Akron Police Chief James Nice is suing the City of Akron, Mayor Dan Horrigan, and current Police Chief Ken Ball for defamation of character according to the suit that was filed in U.S. District Court in Akron Tuesday.
In addition the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office is looking to get Nice's guilty plea that was filed in February, tossed out. In the lawsuit, Nice said that he only pleaded guilty attempted unlawful use of property to avoid prosecution for more serious meritless offenses.
The City of Akron released a statement, pointing out that Jim Nice voluntarily resigned his position last August after "serious allegations" of conduct unbecoming an officer. The statement went on to say that "at no point did the City misrepresent any information or mislead the public" regarding those allegations.
Read the full text from the lawsuit and the full response from the City of Akron below:
City of Akron Response:
James Nice voluntarily resigned from the City of Akron on August 27, 2017, following serious allegations that he engaged in conduct unbecoming of a member of the Akron Police Department. When asked to respond to the allegations against him, James Nice chose to resign rather than face disciplinary action. James Nice later pled guilty to a misdemeanor offense related to his criminal misuse of a police database and surrendered his Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification. Throughout this period, the various allegations against James Nice caused the City of Akron and the men and women of the Akron Police Department significant unwanted disruption and embarrassment. At no point did the City misrepresent any information or mislead the public in any way regarding the former Chief’s apparent misconduct.
In 2018, the City of Akron and the Akron Police Department have moved on from that unfortunate chapter and are rightly focused on doing the critically important work of the Department – making Akron’s neighborhoods safer, protecting Akron homes and businesses, and improving the lives of Akron residents through engaged community policing. While it is unfortunate that any additional taxpayer resources will be spent responding to a frivolous lawsuit by the former Chief, the City and Akron Police Department will not be distracted from fulfilling the work the community expects and deserves - responding to the pressing needs and concerns of our citizens and pursuing meaningful solutions to those truly important issues facing our city.

"I'm Coming Home:" the article posted to SI.com, courtesy of Sports Illustrated writer Lee Jenkins, were the words of LeBron James: Northeast Ohio's Hero turned Villian turned Prodigal Son.
After winning a pair of titles in South Beach with his cast of characters, LeBron James vowed to bring the Larry O'Brien Trophy to Cleveland... To Akron... To Northeast Ohio...
June 19, 2016:
The final seconds had ticked off of the Clock in Oakland, California. Cavs 93, Warriors 89... Tears streamed down the cheeks of the two-time champion, four-time MVP, Kid from Akron...
Meanwhile, more than twenty-four hundred miles away, Cleveland, Ohio was swarmed with fans sharing the same tears, hugging perfect strangers, dancing on police cars while officers watched in shared jubilation.
He did it; he kept his promise. LeBron had returned to Cleveland and brought the title with him.

June 8, 2018:
With still more than four minutes remaining on the game clock in Game 4 of the 2018 NBA Finals at Quicken Loans Arena, LeBron James walked off the court wearing number 23 for the Cleveland Cavaliers. While giving congratulations to members of the Golden State Warriors, who would go on to win Game 4, completing the sweep of the Cavs in the Finals, The Kid from Akron was met with a standing ovation and chants of "MVP! MVP! MVP!" from 20,562 fans, most, if not all of whom were on their feet.
Respect...
Respect for the man who had put an entire team..., an entire city on his shoulders, and carried them all back to the NBA Finals for the fourth year in a row. A little help from his friends, sure; but "a little" doesn't begin to stress the perceived solo mission LeBron embarked on throughout the 2018 NBA Playoffs.
July 1, 2018:
The daylight was dwindling, but the heat still sweltered. With most of the region wrapping up the day, the news broke, just about 8 p.m.:
Just hours into the NBA Free Agency, LeBron's decision was made, speculation could rest, and a fanbase could be content with a superstar's decision and begin to move forward (or not).
It didn't take Cavs owner Dan Gilbert too long, much like after LeBron's first exit, to respond to LBJ's decision, but the difference in those two responses was night and day:
"We will always remember the evening of June 19, 2016 as the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, ended the 52-year drought delivering the long elusive championship that many thought they would never see... A championship that united generations of Clevelanders, both living and passed.
Virtually anyone with roots in Northeast Ohio paused and felt the memories of the past and the utter joy that the burden of the so-called 'curse' was finally a thing of the past. Cleveland, Ohio was the home of a championship team for the first time since 1964. Words do not express the meaning and the feeling this accomplishment brought to the people of Northeast Ohio.
None of this would have happened if LeBron James did not agree to come back home and lead the Cavaliers to the promised land. The entire Cavaliers franchise thanks LeBron for that precious moment and for all of the excitement he delivered as he led our team to four straight NBA Finals appearances.
LeBron is a family man, first. We wish his kids, his wife Savannah, his mother Gloria, and LeBron himself nothing but the best in the years and decades ahead. LeBron's connection to Akron, Cleveland and all of Northeast Ohio will most certainly endure as his commitment to the region and his support of many important causes has been impactful to so many kids and families.
LeBron, you came home and delivered the ultimate goal. Nothing but appreciation and gratitude for everything you put into every moment you spent in a Cavaliers uniform. We look forward to the retirement of the famous #23 Cavs jersey one day down the line..."
July 2, 2018:
A deep breath.
A moment of reflection.
A realization that most of us in Northeast Ohio do not wake up with the presumption that an athlete or a sport is going to dictate how our day goes. For so many of us, there are our families, our friends, our pets (Hi Amos!), our careers, our hearts and our souls, our love, and the list goes on and on.
Taking solace in that, I tip my cap to you LeBron. I thank you for giving Northeast Ohio that moment on the night of June 19, 2016, when we cried tears of joy, alongside family, friends, and fellow fans; when you swelled a community with pride, love, and unrelenting joy.
This week, a major Supreme Court decision about cell phones and privacy, NSA surveillance, controversy facial recognition technology, and gaming addiction as an actual mental illness.

According to the police report, Blackburn, who was driving while intoxicated, crossed North Main Street into oncoming traffic and hit Thomas Leslein's car head on.
Leslein died, two others in his car were seriously injured.

Blackburn reportedly even claimed at one point he didn't know who he was. Police say they found the keys to his car in his pants pocket. The police report shows that Blackburn blew a 0.119 in a BAC field test.
