Akron Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a suspect they believe was responsible for the February 9 hit-skip crash that took the life of 47 year old Akron resident, Jimmy Fletcher, as he was riding an electric bike on South Arlington Street.

They're asking for tips to help them find 23 year old David Ferren, who they believe was driving the white 2013 Chevy Cruze involved in the crash.

Farren is described as a white male with brown hair and hazel-colored eyes. He is approximately six feet, four inches tall and weighs around 188 pounds, with a tattoo on his right arm.

Ferren is charged with Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, and was identified as the suspect based on evidence gathered from the vehicle which was found last Thursday, March 7, in Ashtabula, and then towed back to Akron for processing.

If you have any information that can help find Ferren, please contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2Tip.

Naloxone Distribution Increases Throughout Ohio

Written by

As the fight against opioid addiction continues in Ohio, data from Ohio’s Department of Health shows that the state has increased the amount of the overdose reversing drug naloxone handed out by 42% between 2022 and 2023, distributing nearly 300,000 thousand kits.

State officials say that the increase in distribution has helped lead to an 11% jump in overdose reversals in the same time period, with News 5 reporting that last year Gov. Mike DeWine ordered naloxone to be stored at rest areas for free across the state.

Dennis Cauchon who oversees a statewide non-profit called Harm Reduction Ohio tells News5 that the falling price of naloxone has helped make it more available but that the next step is to target where the overdose reversing drug needs to be in a more precise manner.

April 8th is going to be a big day in Northeast Ohio, with thousands of of visitors from all over the country expected flock here for the first total solar eclipse of the sun visible from this area since 1806.

It will quite literally be the chance of a lifetime, as the next one like it, won't be until 2099.

With that in mind; state, local, and federal offiicials got together recently to discuss their plans to keep people safe from the kinds of things you can naturally expect when big crowds gather, like traffic jams, accidents, and unusually high demand for bandwidth on mobile phone networks.

But they're also planning for things like people inadvertently damaging their septic systems, sustaining eye damage, and even drowning in Lake Erie, in their rush to sky gaze, take pictures, and generally bask in the glory of a dark and mysterious celestial event.

So, get ready to stay safe, healthy, and super astronomically amped, as we count down to the totality!

Listen now.
