Bob Ethington on Black History in Literature

Bob Ethington, Retired Division Manager at Akron-Summit County Public Library, talked to Ray about black history in literature:

Congressman Tim Ryan talked to Ray about security issues pertaining to a possible Russian invasion into Ukraine, trades, electric vehicles, and infrastructure.


For this week's Student Athlete of the Week program, we go to Copley High School.


Vivian Brown is a Junior at Copley High School. Vivian is on the girls swim team, she puts in the work and is a great teammate. At this year's Sectional meet, she dropped 3 seconds in her 200 IM, and 4 seconds in her 100 fly to get her lifetime best and qualify for the District meet. She's a vital member of both the 200 Medley and 400 Free Relays, both of which qualified for the District meet. Vivian is also an excellent student with a 4.5 GPA. 


Caleb Laurich is a Senior at Copley High School. Caleb has been a strong leader all year for the boys basketball team. His leadership and production on the court recently helped the Copley Indians secure the Suburban League title. The Indians are currently 15-6 overall and 12-1 in the Suburban League. Caleb is averaging double-digits in both points and rebounds. Also an excellent student, Caleb has a 4.3 GPA and will be continuing his academic and athletics at Ohio Dominican University next year.

Ray talked to Kevin Kern, Associate Professor of History at the University of Akron. They discuss important black figures in American history and impacts they've had.

2017 Murder Suspect Believed to be Living in Akron

U.S. Marshals with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Akron Police Department are looking for Chris Johson, this week's Fugitive of the Week.
 
Johnson is the last remaining suspect connected to the 2017 murder of then 18-year-old Brandon Belleville. Three others have already been arrested, tried and convicted for their part in the murder. Now Johnson is the only remaining loose end.

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information which would lead to the capture of fugitive Chris Johnson. Johnson is wanted by the United States Marshals Service and the Akron Police Department for homicide. Johnson is the last remaining suspect tied to the 2017 murder of Brandon Belleville, 18.
 
Three others have already been convicted for their roles in Belleville’s death.
 
Johnson, 28, is a black male, standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches and weighing about 180 lbs. He was last known to be living in the Akron, Ohio area.
