Students from Kent, Stow, and Strongsville will be among nearly 55 award-winning young inventors showcased at the Ohio Statehouse Atrium on Jan. 16, as part of Ohio’s celebration of National Kid Inventors’ Day.
The event, organized by the Ohio Invention League, highlights students who are using creativity, problem-solving, and STEAM skills to design solutions to real-world challenges.
Among the featured inventors from our area:
- Beloved O. – A 6th grader at Lakeview Intermediate School in Kent, inventor of Super Strain, a project designed to improve strength and performance through innovative design.
- Lula G. – A 6th grader at Lakeview Intermediate School in Stow, inventor of the Grip No Slip Hair Tie, a practical solution aimed at keeping hair ties secure and comfortable during activity.
- Sourya A. – A 9th grader at Incarnate Word Academy in Strongsville, inventor of SONIC SHIELD, an AI-Driven Sound Device to Extinguish Fires, a cutting-edge project that explores how sound technology could assist in fire suppression.
The students will display their inventions from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with formal remarks beginning at 11 a.m. The program will focus on how invention education builds workforce-ready skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and entrepreneurship.
Many of the students participating in the showcase are also expected to compete this summer at Invention Convention U.S. Nationals 2026.
National Kid Inventors’ Day is observed annually on Jan. 17, honoring young innovators and marking the birthday of Benjamin Franklin, who began inventing at just eleven years old.
For students from Kent, Stow, and Strongsville, the Statehouse showcase is a powerful reminder that big ideas can start in local classrooms, and make an impact far beyond them.
