During a conversation with Rep. Sykes this afternoon, we talked about some of the issues that will be covered tonight, including concern about possible cuts to programs such as Medicaid, and staff reductions at other agencies including Social Security and Veterans Affairs, that could impact millions of Americans nationwide, including those here in Northeast Ohio.
Because Congress has not yet passed a budget resolution for this fiscal year, and we are only about a week away from a possible government shutdown; what is under consideration right now, is possibly passing another “continuing resolution” that would keep the government running under existing budget guidelines. But, Sykes says that doesn’t actually address the cuts underway being done right now by the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) run by tech billionaire, Elon Musk.
So, the situation is not only somewhat confusing, and of concern to the general public; but also to those in Congress. She’ll address that confusion, and explain where they are exactly in the budget process, what’s happening with possible cuts, and more, during the call tonight.
