The Student Athlete of the Week segment is powered by NECA-IBEW and Akron Children’s Hospital.

This week’s athletes are from Manchester High School.

Emma Ross is a sophomore at Manchester that has a 3.9 GPA. She is an outside hitter on the volleyball team and also plays JO during the offseason.

The Lady Panthers just upset Pymatuning Valley last week in the tournament and will travel to Elyria Catholic to play in the district semi-finals. Emma was just recently named All PAC-7 1st team and is All-District. She has 233 kills (and counting) and broke the school record for kills in a single season.  Emma also has 27 aces, 101 service points, 188 receptions, 9 blocks, 9 assists, and198 digs.

“Emma always has a smile on her face. Her positive energy is so contagious. It is hard to be around her and not have a good time. I know she loves volleyball and has become one of our leaders as a sophomore. I’m looking forward to seeing what she can accomplish during the rest of her career at Manchester,” said Athletic Director Brody Jackson.

Ayden Meade is a senior that has a 3.5 GPA. He also attends the Portage Lakes Career Center for half a day and is in the Engineering and Manufacturing Program. Ayden is an exceptional student and is a great role model in Manchester.

Ayden plays football in the fall, wrestles in the winter, and runs track in the spring. He has really excelled on both sides of the ball for the Panther football team this fall. He has 925 yards rushing, nine touchdowns, and is one of the leading tacklers on defense. Manchester is 6-3 and Meade has played a huge part in those six wins.

“He is the nicest kid in the hallways. He always says hi to me and is so respectful to everyone. On the football field he totally turns into an animal. He is zooming around looking for people to run through. I have loved watching him develop over these past four years, as a person and an athlete,” said Athletic Director Brody Jackson.
