Several local communities saw dramatically different snowfall totals over the past 24 hours, as a winter system moved through northeast Ohio. Cleveland.com reported Russell Township in Geauga County was buried under 19 inches of snow, while Cleveland Hopkins International Airport measured 7.2 inches — both were record-setters. By comparison, Akron saw just two inches of snow fall.
While the snow is tapering off, for now, the cold is just getting started. A strong Arctic front is set to move into the region this weekend, bringing a stretch of frigid temperatures. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the single digits for multiple nights, with wind chill values falling to near or below zero this weekend through at least Tuesday. Since the kids already have a day off Monday for MLK, Jr. Day, it’s possible their weekend could get extended even further.
We’ll keep you updated if schools cancel on Jan. 20. Enjoy your cold, snowy weekend!
