Akron Police are extending condolences to the families of two men who died in separate one-car crashes on Friday, May 9.

Akron Police Public Information Officer, Lt. Michael Murphy Jr., released the following statement:

“We’re deeply saddened by the tragic losses from two fatal car accidents that happened on Friday night. As first responders, we encounter vehicle accidents frequently, but it’s rare and especially difficult to experience two fatal crashes in one night. We extend our condolences to the families, friends, and all those impacted by these incidents”.

The first crash happened at 5:34 PM, in the 900 block of East Tallmadge Avenue, and claimed the life of a 36 year old man, when he struck a utility pole.

The second occurred on East Market Street, near Seiberling Street, at 10:43 PM, and resulted in the death of a 70 year old man, who crashed into several trees.

Both accidents are currently under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Akron Police.
