This week, our 1590 WAKR Female Student Athlete of the Week is Kiah Jenkins, a junior bowler from North High School.
Kiah said she has been bowling from a young age and she’s credited her mother for her interest in the sport.
“Ever since my mom had me walking, she had me throwing a ball down the lane,” she said.
“She taught me specifically how to roll the ball, where I should stand, what each pin was, and she’s played a big role in both bowling and softball and just who I am as a person.”
A two-sport athlete in both bowling and softball, Jenkins keeps busy with athletics and academics, sporting a 3.2 GPA.
A leader both vocally and by example, Kiah says being an encouraging teammate is something she prides herself on.
One of her most memorable highlights was winning the City Championship in bowling for the Vikings recently. It was a nerve racking experience, as they won by three points.
“I almost started to cry,” Jenkins said laughing.
She says her coaches make sure that academics come before athletics and preparing for the future is of the utmost importance.
In her spare time, Kiah enjoys bowling, of course, spending time with family and friends, and running.
We at 1590 WAKR wish Kiah the best in all of her future endeavors.
