In recent years, and especially since the protests and riots of 2020, the job of a police officer is not in high demand. Recruitment across the country is down, and many current officers are either waiting until their pensions kick in or just quitting altogether.
Clay Cozart is the president of Akron's Fraternal Order of Police, and he joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to talk about how recruitment is extremely tough in Akron, and how calls for defunding or even abolishing police departments have caused major issues in hiring. Cozart talked about the low pay for these positions compared to the danger of the job, and how departments can get some more funding going forward.
