Children Coping With Anxiety as New School Year Approaches Featured

A feeling everyone can empathize with is the nervousness of heading back to school. Summer is wrapping up, and the daily grind of school work looms in the air. Some students are able to cope with that feeling, with a few even embracing and getting excited to head back to the classroom. But not every student shares those sentiments, and many are overcome with anxiety.

Dr. Ethan Benore specializes in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology at Cleveland Clinic, and he joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to address how everyone from children to the parents and even school administrators can handle the problem of childhood anxiety. Dr. Benore believes the first step to addressing this anxiety is for parents to form a set structure for a child, thus establishing a security blanket. He says that anxiety could be deeper than just completing tests and homework assignments; bullying in school and other mental health hurdles could lie beneath the surface.
