This November, communities across Northeast Ohio are hosting events and special offers to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Kent State University Veterans Day Commemoration – Monday, Nov. 10
Kent State University invites the public to its annual Veterans Day Commemoration at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 10 on the Student Green, located in front of the Kent Student Center and Risman Plaza.
The program includes a flag-raising and posting of colors by Kent State’s Army and Air Force ROTC, a bugler, the National Anthem, and remarks from President Todd Diacon.
Keynote speaker Patricia “Trish” McDaniel, Ph.D., a 1983 Kent State alumna and senior executive research scientist for the U.S. Army, will share insights from her 40-year career in chemistry and defense research.
Veterans and service members are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch at noon in the Kent Student Center dining room, followed by daffodil planting at 1 p.m. behind Taylor Hall to honor those lost in Vietnam.
Those unable to attend in person can watch via livestream. Kent State has again earned the Military Friendly® Gold designation and retains its Collegiate Purple Star recognition for supporting military-connected students. Learn more at kent.edu/veteransday.
Crossroads Hospice Honors Veterans – Friday, Nov. 7
Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care will host patriotic ceremonies on Friday, November 7, recognizing residents who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
2 p.m. – Grande Pointe Healthcare Center, Richmond Heights
2:30 p.m. – Independence Village, Aurora
Events will include prayers, patriotic songs, and the presentation of certificates, American flag pins, and gifts of appreciation.
City of Green Veterans Day Ceremony – Tuesday, Nov. 11
The City of Green invites the community to its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11 at 10:45 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road.
Highlights include guest speaker Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bill Burgess, ROTC and Fire Honor Guard presentations, performances by Green High School’s A Cappella Choir, and a Witness Tree ceremony at noon. An ice cream social follows, courtesy of Waylon’s Handcrafted Ice Cream. If it rains, the event moves indoors to the Queen of Heaven Parish Life Center.
City of Cuyahoga Falls Closures – Tuesday, Nov. 11
All Cuyahoga Falls municipal offices will be closed Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. There will be no delay in trash, recycling, or sanitation pickup.

Across Northeast Ohio, many attractions and businesses are honoring veterans and active-duty military with free admission, meals, and discounts:
Akron Zoo – Free admission for veterans Nov. 7–11; families get 50% off.
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad – Free Veterans Day Train ride for veterans and up to three guests, Nov. 11.
Pro Football Hall of Fame – Free admission for veterans and one guest on Nov. 11, plus a Veterans Day Expo from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Golden Corral, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, and others – Free meals for veterans on Nov. 10–11.
Retailers such as Target and Kohl’s are offering military discounts through Veterans Day.
Most offers require proof of military service or a valid military ID.
