Akron police say a welfare check on the city’s west side led to a tragic discovery Tuesday.

Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Casterton Avenue around 2:30 p.m. where they found a married couple who had both been shot. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Summit County Medical Examiner identified the victims as Sharleen Kohnke, 60, and Robert Kohnke, 39.

Investigators say Sharleen was shot and killed. They believe her husband, Robert, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
