The University of Akron is shutting down its long-running Confucius Institute program, after the US Department of Defense made it clear they will no longer fund military research at Colleges and Universities that continue to allow that Chinese Government-funded program on campus.

The goal is to protect US Military technology from Chinese spies, who federal government officials say could gain access to it through that educational and cultural exchange program.
