The City of Akron is extending hours at four local community centers as the forecast is calling for heat index values near 106 degrees Wednesday. 
 
The four cooling centers are Lawton Street Community Center, Mason Park, Patterson Park, And Summit Lake Community Centers. The facilities are open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for residents who need to get out of the heat.
 
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Akron, Ohio, June 14, 2022 — Due to forecasted high temperatures, Mayor Dan Horrigan has announced that the City of Akron will extend hours at four community “cooling centers” this week.  The following community centers will be open for extended hours on Wednesday and Thursday (June 15 and 16) from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM:

All other community centers will also be open to the public during normal building hours and anyone in need is welcome to come cool off and get out of the heat. For a full list of center locations and hours please click here.

The City will continue to monitor for continuous high temperatures and will extend community center hours as necessary. Unless otherwise specified, the centers will return to their normal business hours starting Friday, June 17.
