An accident involving an ATV and a snowmobile on the Portage Lakes left one man dead and another seriously injured over the weekend. 

 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office and the Summit Metro Crash Response Team responded to the West Reservoir near 503 Portage Lakes Drive early Sunday morning at about 2:20 a.m. 

 

There they found a 20-year-old man and a 33-year-old man seriously injured aftger the crash. The 20-year-old, who was reportedly riding on the ATV, was transported to Cleveland Clinic - Akron General Hospital where he later passed away. The 33-year-old man was riding on the snowmobile. He was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital with life-threatening injuries. There has been no update on his status as of Monday morning. 

 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the accident, however they are reporting that both vehicles were operating outside of the allowable hours on the lake. They suspect speed was a factor in the crash, and are also reporting that both men were wearing helmets.
