Broom-Wielding Store Clerk Chases Off Suspect

Written by

Akron Police are looking for the suspect in an attempted armed robbery of the Valley Mart at 1752 Merriman Road Monday afternoon.

According to the APD report, the suspect walked into the Valley Mart with a scarf covering his face, threw a plastic bag in the clerk's face, pulled out a gun, and then demanded money.

The clerk complied, and put an undisclosed amount in the bag. That's when the suspect took off running, but didn't realize the clerk was running after him... armed with a broomstick! The clerk chased down the suspect and hit him over the back of the head with the broomstick, causing the suspect to drop the bag of cash and continue running away northbound on Weathervane Lane.

The suspect is described as a white male about 25-30 years-old, between 5'10" and 6'0" tall, with brown hair. He was wearing a black scarf over his face, black hoodie with white horizontal stripes, black shorts, and flip flops.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Akron Police Department.
