The final defendant in a major Akron-based drug trafficking conspiracy has been sentenced, closing a federal case that sent seven Akron residents to prison for a combined 84 years.

Jonnell Ammons, 36, of Akron, was sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with using a phone to facilitate drug trafficking. He will also serve three years of supervised release.

Federal prosecutors say the conspiracy operated from May 2023 through January 2024, using homes and businesses in Akron to store illegal drugs before distributing them throughout Summit County and surrounding areas. Investigators say members communicated by phone, relied on wiretaps, and used loaded firearms to protect drugs and cash.

During the investigation, agents seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, three loaded guns, more than $8,500 in cash, a Rolex watch, and a Chevy Corvette.

All six co-defendants were Akron residents who were previously sentenced, with prison terms ranging from 2.5 years to 35 years.
