The of Akron is assuring residents at the Spring Hill Apartments on Everton Drive, that they’re on the job when it comes to getting complaints resolved about roaches, mold, a broken elevator, and more.
That includes City Housing Compliance officials meeting with building management in person, issuing orders to resolve residents’ complaints, and connecting with the US Postal Service to get mail delivery restarted, after carriers refused to go there because of the roaches.
According to Mayor Shammas Malik, Akron officials have also shared a tenant inspection request form with the tenants of the building so that any tenant with unresolved maintenance or repair issues in their unit can get an inspection conducted quickly.
The City has already issued orders to comply for the pest control problem, trash in the compactor areas, a broken elevator, and mold found in two units. These orders include finding a source of the mold and remediating that issue so as not to cause future problems. Building management has recently switched pest control providers and is addressing that concern in the immediate future.
“The conditions at Spring Hill Apartments are concerning to our administration,” said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. “Everyone in our city deserves safe, stable housing free of pests and other nuisance issues. I appreciate the willingness of building management to work aggressively to address these concerns for their tenants. Our housing inspectors will continue to follow up on these orders as a high priority concern until all issues have been resolved.”
