ACCESS Emergency Shelter for Women and Children in Akron is celebrating a big donation from billionaire Amazon founder, former Executive Chairman, and CEO, Jeff Bezos, and his wife, Lauren Sanchez-Bezos.
Shelter officials say the $1.2 million dollar donation, which came from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund, will be used to support families experiencing homelessness.
ACCESS was one of the 32 organizations across the country identified this year by an independent advisory group of homelessness experts, and was recognized for their efforts to help families in Summit County find stability, and to achieve well-being.
In a post on their website, the organization notes that the grant will “help them serve more families, expand access to safe shelter, and to deepen their wraparound services.”
