The City of Akron is celebrating a big improvement in water test results after changing their water treatment process over the past few months.

Earlier this year, they reported that a naturally ocurring, but unwanted byproduct of their water treatment; Haloacetic Acid (HAA5), exceeded normal levels set by the EPA, and put out a notice to residents in certain neighborhoods, though there was no action any water customers needed to take at that time.

Now, they say the latest testing results for HAA5 at 12 water sampling locations, are not only back to normal; they are best test results the City has had in at least the last 5 years, and they will not have to issue any further notifications to city water customers.

In a statement issued today, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said “I want to thank our entire Akron Water Supply Bureau staff with a special thanks to our Water Supply Bureau Manager Scott Moegling. Their hard work and innovation over the last several months have been truly extraordinary and their efforts provided some of our best testing results in years. This type of effort just exemplifies the type of staff the City of Akron has, and we are proud of this outstanding achievement.”
