Akron wrapped up its Bicentennial year with a big moment: a brand-new city logo. Mayor Shammas Malik unveiled the design at the Bicentennial Closing Ceremony this weekend, capping off nearly a year of community surveys, artist outreach, and design workshops.

Created by local firm Pritt Entertainment Group, the new logo replaces the longtime “Rubberworker” symbol. Residents helped shape every element, like the iconic blimp honoring Akron’s rubber roots, the downtown skyline and buckeye trees representing nature and growth, and a blue heron standing by the waterway to celebrate renewal and environmental progress. Even the upward tilt in the word “Akron” nods to the city’s namesake-meaning “high point,” and its momentum heading forward.

The logo will roll out digitally first, then gradually take over physical signage as the city updates materials.

Mayor Malik says the goal is simple: give Akron a symbol its residents feel proud to rally around.
