The City of Akron is inviting developers to apply for new funding aimed at expanding affordable housing options across the city.

The Department of Planning and Urban Development has released two Requests for Proposals that will make millions of dollars available for projects serving low- and moderate-income residents, including those experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Up to $2 million in federal HOME-ARP funding will support housing for individuals and families facing housing instability. In addition, the city is offering up to $500,000 per project through its HOME Investment Partnership Program to support affordable housing developments.

“These Requests for Proposals will help create safe, quality housing for our most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Shammas Malik. “They also allow developers to leverage city funding to attract additional investment and strengthen neighborhoods across Akron.”

The city is encouraging proposals for a wide range of projects, from small infill developments to larger multi-family housing. Projects will be evaluated based on their ability to meet community needs, leverage additional funding, and provide access to transit and neighborhood amenities.

Applications for the HOME RFP are due January 16, 2026. The HOME-ARP RFP deadline is March 27, 2026. Additional funding rounds are expected later in the year.

More information, application materials, and submission details are available at the City of Akron’s website under Housing and Community Development.
