The Akron Public School District is updating families after five consecutive days of school closures caused by extreme winter weather. District leaders say safety concerns were heightened because about 75% of APS students walk to school and would have faced hazardous conditions.
APS officials say some schools are nearing their limit of allowed calamity days under state law. Building principals will share updates on remaining instructional time and whether make-up days may be required if additional closures occur.
Families can find more details in a district FAQ, and officials say they will continue to provide updates as winter weather continues.
