Akron Police have released body cam footage which clearly shows the man an officer shot and wounded on November 11, was unarmed. In addition, you can hear officers saying he did not have a gun when they searched him, after the shooting.
It happened on Albrecht Avenue in Akron, and started when a woman who was working in a bar at that location, called 9-1-1, and in a panicked voice, told the dispatcher that there was a man pointing what appeared to be a gun into their window.

In response, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik released a statement, which says in part, that the shooting “underscores why the city is undertaking a comprehensive review the police department’s use-of-force policies, practices, and procedures.” Click here to read the whole statement.
Akron Police Chief, Brian Harding, also released a statement, in which he talks about the use of force review, and notes “We have high standards in the Akron Police Department and that includes a belief that there is always room for improvement; always lessons to be learned, including in this incident.”
