Even though Akron Police have released body camera footage of the officer-involved shooting that took the life of 15 year old North High School student, Jazmir Tucker on Thursday night, Nov. 29; it is still not known exactly why police opened fire, what, if any threat the boy posed to the officer who shot him, and why police didn’t immediately turn on their body cameras so the public could see clearly what happened in the critical moments before Tucker died.
That is the conclusion that Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief, Brian Harding have come to so far, as they point to the primary and ongoing investigation being conducted now the Ohio Bureau of Investigation, which is the law enforcement agency within the Ohio Attorney General’s office.
However, they do say that police policy with regard to the use of deadly force will be a topic of discussion and action that they will take up next week.
