The City of Akron has approved new pay deals for firefighters and civil-service workers. The raises match those given to the police: 5% in 2025, then 4.5% in both 2026 and 2027.

Beginning in 2026, their health insurance costs will go up slightly to align with other city staff.

Mayor Shammas Malik says the city plans to tighten its budget elsewhere to keep finances stable and it’s a sign of respect for city workers.
