Akron Public Schools and the City of Akron are asking residents and property owners to help keep students safe by clearing snow and ice from sidewalks as students return to school today (Feb. 2).

Thousands of Akron students walk to and from school each day, and when sidewalks aren’t cleared, children are often forced into the street or onto unsafe surfaces. City and school officials say shoveling sidewalks in front of homes and businesses is a simple way to reduce injuries and help students travel safely.

While the city continues snow removal on roadways, officials stress that clear sidewalks are critical for student safety.
