Local and State officials nationwide have been grappling with federal immigration enforcement efforts for months, but now are doing so with even greater urgency, in response to ICE shootings in Minneapolis that claimed the lives recently of Nicole Good, and Alex Pretti.
The Columbus Dispatch reports today, that the Springfield City Council passed a resolution asking federal agents to display their ID’s and follow local police rules, if an anticipated ICE surge occurs there when the temporary protected immigration status of 15,000 Hattians who have been living and working there for years, expires next week.
While they know they cannot force the federal government to do anything; they are still urging federal authorities to comply with local rules and ordinances covering police operations.
