With temperatures expected to drop into the teens, the City of Akron is opening warming centers to help residents stay safe.

The Summit Lake Community Center (370 W. Crosier St.) will serve as a daytime Warming Center from Sunday, Jan. 18 through Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. All other City of Akron Community Centers will be closed Sunday and Monday and will reopen Tuesday during normal hours.

The Akron Emergency Overnight Warming Center (EOWC), located at 111 East Voris St., will be open overnight from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. on the following nights: Jan. 17–23, 2026. The EOWC provides free shelter, food, and clothing and opens when overnight temperatures fall to 25 degrees or below.

Transportation is available via METRO Bus routes #13 and #15, with a stop across from the Main Post Office on Wolf Ledges Pkwy.
