The work of a photographer who captured the natural beauty of Cuyahoga Valley National Park back in the 1980’s, when it was still just known as the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area, will be celebrated during a special event coming up Thursday, January 22, at the Akron Art Museum.
“Ordinary Miracles: Robert Glenn Ketchum’s Photographs of Cuyahoga Valley National Park” is presented by the Akron Press Club, and tickets are free, though you must make reservations. Click here for reservations.
This special program will include an overview of Ketchum and a tour of the exhibit, which opened in August, and ends January 25.
From 1986-1988 Ketchum documented what was then known as the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area. Ketchum’s large color photographs show the reality of the landscape at that time, including gas wells on farmland, industrial dump sites and graffiti. The Akron Art Museum commissioned the project, which resulted in the 1991 book, “Overlooked in America: The Success and Failure of Federal Land Management.”
**This story has been updated to show that tickets, which previously had been listed at $35 each, are now free.
