The Student Athlete of the Week segment is powered by NECA-IBEW and Akron Children’s Hospital.

This week’s athletes are from Barberton High School.

Molly Bittinger is a Junior and a member of the BHS Volleyball and Girls’ Basketball Teams.  She carries a 4.37 GPA in the classroom.
Molly has been a leader for Coach Kaisk on the court for volleyball and also for Coach O’Neil in basketball.  Her leadership extends beyond the court into the classroom and community.  She is someone that the student-athletes on her teams and also the students in the building can look to as an example of leadership.
Coach Kaisk had this to say about Molly.  “Molly has been someone me and my coaching staff can look to for being a coach on the floor who challenges her teammates to get better, but also does so with a positive attitude.  Looking forward to continuing to watch her growth on the court during her senior season.”  Coach O’Neil said this about Molly and her role on the basketball team.  “Molly was one of our returning lettermen this season on a very young team.  She has done everything we have asked her to do on both ends of the floor.”

Joseph (JoJo) Porter III is a Senior and a member of the BHS Football, Wrestling and Baseball Teams. He carries a 3.89 GPA in the classroom.  JoJo was a key member on the defensive side of the field this past season for Coach Gotto in football.  He played wherever the team needed him for the Magics to be successful.  On the wrestling team, he is one of the most experienced and versatile wrestlers for Coach Morr.  His work ethic at practices and in the weight-room have played an important role for his success on the mat.  Coach Morr had this to say about JoJo.  “JoJo is the type of student-athlete  that the younger kids look up to as he is always challenging himself to get better.  For a coach, that is exciting because that becomes contagious.”  On the baseball team, JoJo is one of the team’s best hitters and infielders.  Magics Baseball coach Perretta had this to say.  ” I am excited to see JoJo during his senior season.  He has been one of our best hitters during his high school career and this will follow him during his collegiate career at Hiram.”
