Classes are back to normal today (Jan. 7) at two Akron schools after utility problems forced schedule changes earlier this week.

Akron Public Schools says Betty Jane Community Learning Center and Portage Path Community Learning Center have both reopened and are operating on their regular schedules after issues were resolved.

The disruptions began on Jan. 6 when utility problems impacted both buildings.

Betty Jane CLC was closed for the day due to low water pressure that prevented the building’s heating system from operating safely. District maintenance crews worked to address the issue, and APS says repairs were completed and the heating system is now fully functional.

Portage Path CLC dismissed students early at 11 a.m. after a City of Akron water main break affected service to the school. Standard early dismissal transportation procedures were followed, and lunch was provided to students before dismissal.

APS officials say student and staff safety remains the district’s top priority and thanked families for their patience during the unexpected closures.
