An Akron fifth grader is warming hearts this holiday season, one handmade beanie at a time.

Eleven-year-old Ella Mosher, a student at Seiberling CLC, spent weeks crocheting 18 beanies to donate to patients at Akron Children’s Hospital. While hospital policies prevent in-person delivery, Ella says that didn’t stop her from wanting to help.

“I just really like making people happy,” she said.

With support from her mom, Ashley, and encouragement from her teachers, Ella turned her love of crafting into an act of kindness. Her teacher, Christine Luf, says Ella’s creativity and generosity have inspired classmates, many of whom have joined her in learning to crochet.

Though she won’t see the faces of the patients receiving her handmade gifts, Ella says knowing she’s helping others during the holidays is enough.

“It feels good to lift someone’s spirit,” she said.
