If it feels like Firestone CLC singers and dancers have been everywhere this holiday season, you’re not imagining it. Since Dec. 12, more than 110 students have been crisscrossing Akron, singing, dancing, and spreading holiday cheer in what’s turned into a full-on performance marathon.

Their schedule has included performances at the Akron Woman’s City Club Holiday Luncheon, a recent appearance by the Vocal Jazz and Madrigals at the WAKR Senior Luncheon, caroling in the lobby of EJ Thomas Hall, singing with the Akron Symphony Orchestra Choir, and taking the stage at the Akron Civic Theatre for a Holiday Choir Concert. The run all led up to a major milestone: Firestone CLC’s first-ever Holiday Pops concert.

Music teacher Megan Meyer says the excitement has been building all season. “They’re feeling really excited, and I think it’s something the community has wanted for a long time,” Meyer said. “It’s a really cool thing for the community at large.”

The performances combine polished vocals and choreography, much of it led by students themselves. Senior Emma Richmond, who directs the show choir, says the process is demanding but rewarding. “We learn the music, we memorize it, and then we learn the dancing. It’s been easy to connect our singing and dancing together,” she said.

Senior Roxie Nichols leads the vocal jazz ensemble, including a standout performance of “Mary, Did You Know?” “When you’re watching singers who love what they’re singing, you really feel that,” Nichols said. “It really gets people’s attention.”

Behind the scenes, Meyer says the experience goes far beyond music. Seniors run rehearsals, coach younger students, and build leadership skills they’ll use long after graduation. “I pick the tunes, but they do the work,” Meyer said. “I just help polish it.”

Proceeds from Holiday Pops will help fund new choir uniforms, supporting a growing program that continues to shine throughout the community.
