Akron Public Schools has reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement with its newly formed SEIU Local 1 Technology Employees bargaining unit. The group, created earlier this year, represents APS staff who support the district’s technology systems, network operations, and infrastructure.

District leaders say the agreement reflects a strong, collaborative effort between APS and the union’s negotiating teams. Superintendent Mary Outley called the tentative agreement “a vital step in supporting the technology staff who keep our schools running.”

Union representative Joshua Holahan said the agreement demonstrates “unity, respect, and fair compensation” for workers who maintain the district’s essential IT systems.

Next steps include a union ratification vote scheduled for Nov. 29, followed by Board of Education review on Dec. 8.

The announcement comes as APS wraps up a successful bargaining season that also includes agreements with teachers, child nutrition and safety staff, maintenance and transportation teams, paraprofessionals, and foremen.
