The City of Akron is continuing its partnership with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA), to offer optional exterior water and sewer house line insurance for Akron residents.

City water customers are getting letters in the mail notifying them about the optional program, which costs $3.57 per month for water lines, and $4.57 per month, for sewer.

The voluntary program covers damage to pipes on residents’ property, which aren’t covered by the city, or through homeowner’s insurance.

The normal 30-day wait period for coverage to kick in has been waived by the company, so it will start immediately upon joining the program.

Service calls are covered for up to $8,500 per call for covered water service and sewer line repairs, and the protection covers all types of pipe material; no matter how old the line is.

Akron Service Director, Chris Ludle says many homeowners are unaware they are responsible for any repairs needed to water/sewer lines on the exterior of their property, and that the program can offer peace of mind so that if a break occurs; they know they are covered.

If a program customer’s service line needs to be repaired; they can just call the SLWA 24-hour hotline, which will dispatch a local, licensed, and insured contractor familiar with local code.

There are no service fees or deductibles, and the repair is guaranteed for one year.
