It was a crime that prompted both the City’s Mayor and Police Chief to promise they’d get to the bottom of it, step up foot patrols, and increase security overall in Highland Square, and now today; police say they’ve made some arrests.
25 year old Timothy Hutchinson died because he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, when there was a gun battle in the 800 block of West Market Street, a little after midnight, on the morning on Sunday, October 5.
This morning, with the assistance of the US Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force; Akron Police tracked down 24-year-old Deshawn Stafford, and 23-year-old Emahni Eugene Thomas, who they say were shooting at each other when Hutchinson got hit.
Stafford is charged with a number of crimes, including Murder, Felonious Assault, and Trafficking in Drugs. Thomas is being held on unrelated charges of Aggravated Robbery and Having Weapons While Under Disability, but police say charges related to Hutchinson’s death are pending while the investigation continues.
**Note: This story has been updated, and now properly spells Timothy Hutchinson’s name.
