If you, or someone you know, is old, sick, and in nursing home care currently covered by Medicaid; it is time to start thinking now about how you are going to handle increased reporting requirements and potential loss of benefits, when $790 billion dollars in cuts from that federal health care program go into effect after the 2026 midterm elections.

The cuts were included in the “big beautiful bill” passed recently by Congress, which seek to reduce the federal government’s share of obligation to cover health care costs for low income, elderly, and disabled Americans. Some of those expenditures may be picked up by the States, but it is unclear at this time exactly how much.

Medicare recipients may also see a noticeable reduction in benefits, with the Congressional Budget office estimating $500 billion dollars in cuts from the program as well.
