Akron Police are investigating two shootings today; one on Sunday, that resulted in the death of an unborn child, and the other that took the life of a man on North Hill last night, Wednesday, August 20.
That one happened at about 10:35 PM in the 900 block of Dayton Street, where police found the body of a 26 year old man, identified as Deron Boston, inside a home, and the Summit County Medical Examiner has ruled his death a homicide.
At around the same time; they got a call about a 25 year old man who was being treated for gunshot wounds at a local hospital.
Now, they are trying to find out if the two are related.
The other shooting ocurred early Sunday morning, August 17, and police say they’re not sure where or when it happened. They discovered the victim, a 29 year old woman, in the hospital at about 12:30AM, and say that while she had been pregnant before she was shot; she has since lost her unborn child.
In response, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik released the following statement:
“It’s heartbreaking to see a reprehensible act like this that was so callous and immoral. It’sclear the work we do daily in partnership with Akron Police Department and our community partners to address violent crime is absolutely critical. Finding the person responsible for this heinous crime is our top priority. Mythoughts are with the victim and her family as they deal with this tragedy.”
Now, Akron Police are asking for tips on both crimes, and no one has yet been arrested in connection with either one.
