Akron native Marcus M. Martin, who is a standby in the role of the Genie in Alladin on Broadway, is coming home for a special night in concert to benefit the Weathervane Musical Theatre Company (WMTC) Scholarship Fund, on August 23.
Martin, who formerly starred as the Genie the the show’s North American tour, says that Weathervane Playhouse is where he originally fell in love with theater, “That’s where I perfected my craft, and that really prepared me for where I am now.”
The event will feature both solo performances by Martin, and collaborations with WMTC student performers, with highlights including “Friend Like Me” from Alladin, a medley from Motown: The Musical, and “Any Dream Will Do” from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Broadway Music Director, Patrick B. Phillips, who is currently working on Broadway’s “Romeo & Juliet”, will also be a featured guest that evening.

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and include appetizers; and cash bar will also be available. You can purchase tickets by calling 330-836-2626 or by going to www.weathervaneplayhouse.com.
WMTC is a pre-professional musical theatre training program for students interested in a career in the performing arts, and proceeds will support WMTC scholarships.
