Two Akron police officers were injured and taken to the hospital for evaluation, after a tumultuous incident that started around 3:30 this morning in the 100 block of Tate Terrace.
They got called in after it was reported a driver had crashed into an apartment building.
But once they got there; it turns out the driver wasn’t done crashing into things. In fact, police say when they tried to stop him, he ran into a police cruiser, led them on a chase, struck and rammed another police cruiser three times, and then wound up pinned against a tree after crashing into it in what turned out to be a stolen car.
Now, police say 31 year old Mikal D. Gamble is charged with Felonious Assault, Assault on a Law, Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Receiving Stolen Property, Vandalism, Criminal Damaging,Molesting Police Equipment, Disrupting Public Services, Failure to Comply, and Obstructing Official Business.
In addition, the residents of the apartment building had to be evacuated for safety, because his car damaged their gas meter.
